The 2007 Orange British Academy Film Awards Nominations Announcement By Gregg Schwenk

Nominees for the 60th Anniversary of The Orange British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) have been announced.  The UK awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 11.  The awards will be sponsored for the tenth year running by Orange and will be broadcast on BBC America in the U.S.

The BAFTAs are awarded by the British Academy of Film & Television Arts (www.bafta.org).  As one of the organization?s principal functions, BAFTA works to identify and reward excellence in the artforms of the moving image.  It achieves this objective by bestowing awards on those practitioners who have excelled in their chosen field of expertise. 

Among last year?s winners:  ?Brokeback Mountain? for Best Film, Ang Lee for The David Lean Award for Achievement in Direction, Best Actor to Philip Seymour Hoffman, Best Actress to Reese Witherspoon,Best Supporting Actor to Jake Gyllenhaal, Best Supporting Actress to Thandie Newton (?Crash?),Best Original Screenplay to ?Crash,? and Best First Film to director Joe Wright for ?Pride & Prejudice.?  Among the star-studded line-up of guests were Pierce Brosnan, George Clooney, Ralph Fiennes,Jake Gyllenhaal, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Heath Ledger, Ang Lee, Thandie Newton, Charlize Theron, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, and Ziyi Zhang.

Gregg Schwenk is a writer, educator, and entrepreneur. He reports on a number of various subjects including: film, art, technology and politics. Mr. Schwenk is an adjunct professor at CSUF's Center for Entertainment and Tourism located in Orange County, California. He is also a consultant and advisor to several entertainment and technology firms. In 2005, Mr. Schwenk was appointed by the US Secretary of Commerce, to the District Export Council. He has a BA from the University of California, Berkeley and completed the Advanced Management Program at USC.
